My Job
My full name is Muhammad Tufail Khan. I am from Pakistan. I was born on September 6, 1973 in a small city of Pakistan named "Dera Ismail Khan".
My religion is Islam and obviously I am a Muslim.
I belong to Pathan family and my mother tongue is Pushto.
We are five family members. Me, my sweet Papa & Mummy and my dear little brother and sister.
I am a graduate and have secured a Masters degree in Computer Science.
Back to topI started going to school at the age of 3 years. It was about beginning of 1977 as I remember. The name of my school was "Grand Little Folks School". I remember some of my teachers until now. Some of them are Mrs. Anees, Mrs. Khan, Miss Carrel (she was Miss in those days) and above all my Madam Mrs. Nathaniel. We were living in Quetta in those days.
In the early days of school I didn't like to go to school, and my Papa & Mummy had to do a lot of "WORK" daily in the morning to make me prepared for the school. But with the passage of time became used-to to it and in class 1 I got double promotion and was promoted to class 2.
I remember some of my class fellows. Fahim, Faryal & Samina (Fahim's sisters), Shazia (daughter of Mrs. Khan), Yahyaa & Dawood (Sons of Mrs. Khan), Maqbool (I remember him because of his ears were longer than of all of us in the class). Another one friend of mine was Muhammad Ahmed Butt. He had a seat next to me in the class. One girl I remember is Laila (cause she was the girl who gave me her register, when I came back to school from a sick leave. I remember it was the register of Science). She had very good handwriting.
Back to topThen I got admission in a high school. The name of that school was "Helpers High School Quetta". I remained in that school until class 7th. I got 2nd and 3rd positions in the high school classes but never got first.
I remember some of my class fellows of that school. Arif (a tall guy of our class, played Football very well).
Zafar Ahmed Baloch he was my friend. I remember that when I got third position in the class for the first time, he arranged a feast for me. (One can think about feast of a child, but I think passions count more).
In girls I remember Sarah because she had a seat next to me in the class. She was a good class fellow. In our school, students were allowed to take one novel per week from school library. Only one student was allowed to go to the library and pick a novel at a time (just to avoid rush). She made a clever trick. She made to select two novels, and bring one with herself and told the name of other to me so that I may bring it with me. We shared novels with each other, and hence get two per week.
The other girl was Huma. She was in competition with me in getting position and we shared third and second positions one after other.
The girl, I tried my best, but never won from her, was Zakia. She got 1st position always.
Then my Papa was transferred to Karachi. Here I got admission in class 8th. The name of the school was "Dawn Secondary School". After 1 year I changed my school and got admission in another school in class 9th. Its name was "Karachi Academy". I cleared my Matriculation examination from there and secured "A" grade. These were the days of 1988.
I don't remember any particular event of those days.
Back to topThen I got admission in a College named "Govt. College for Men Nazim-Abad". I achieved my "Higher Secondary School Certificate" from there. The year was 1990.
I found my best friend "Faisal Siddiqui" in first year of my college life. He has secured Masters Degree in Computer Science and is a Software Engineer in a firm here in Karachi now days.
There came a turning point in my life.
I applied in Pakistan Air Force as a CAE (Cadet Aeronautical Engineer). The batch was of 41st CAE and the year was 1991. I cleared all the examinations and interviews and was finally selected for a final medical checkup at PAF Base Maripur. There the ENT specialist identified a problem named DNS (Dissected Nasal Septum) and prescribed an operation for it. He declared me temporarily unfit.
I didn't know at that time that my fate would drive me towards Computer Science and make me Software Engineer in the coming life.
The operation was very minor, but due to mistake of Surgeon it failed and I was declared permanently unfit for the Air Force. It was a shock for me, but I didn't give up and contacted different surgeons for the remedy. I went through 2 more operations but in vain. In all this stuff one more year passed away.
I was very dishearten and was not interested in studies anymore. But anyway I got admission in B.Sc. with a combination of Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics. As I told earlier that I was not more interested in studies therefore I spent most of my time in home and just went to the college for practical.
These were the days of 1992-1993.
During the same period my Papa started a business of "Poultry farming" and I went to take care of it and found an escape from studies. I took care of it for about 1-1/2 year(s).
In poultry business we went through a great loss and there I got a shock again. But this was a shock that pushed me towards studies. This was about the end of 1994. I was in last year of B.Sc. I saw an advertisement of Computer Institute, in renowned organization "Pakistan Steel". They were commencing a Diploma in Computer Science. I didn't know a bit about computers in those days. Even I didn't knew how to start it. My class fellow had a computer and I had just seen it there.
Anyway I applied for the test. The shock of loss in poultry business was of such impact, that I got Second position in merit list (again not first). I took admission there. This was January 1995.
The timings of institute were from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. I developed interest in Computer Science.
I remained to sit in computer lab until all the offices were closed at about 5:00 PM.
Back to topI don’t know why I have a natural competition with girls. In our institute there studied a girl named Seema. She was my class fellow. She was good in studies but the point that drove me towards M.C.S was that after some conversations with her I came to know that her brother has got an MS degree in Computer Science and is a Director in Cressoft America. I don’t know what strike my mind and I decided that I'll get a Masters degree in Computer Science and that’s it.
The diploma was spanned upon 4 modules each of 6 months.
Those were the days of March 1996 when University of Karachi announced test date for evening classes of M.C.S. I was in such a hurry that I left my diploma in 3rd module and after clearing the aptitude test got admission in University.
I didn’t get any extra ordinary positions in the University. But anyway I remained teaching assistant of one of my favorite teacher Mr. Kamal Jaffery, for Numerical Computing when I was studying in 3rd Semester. In 4th Semester I conducted course of Advanced Assembly Language as asked by my friend Naveed Saqib, and allowed by Chairman Dept. of Computer science Dr. Aqil Burney.
Our group secured 90% marks in final project, which were the highest marks awarded by the Chairman Dept. of computer science in our class.
Back to topIn last semester I applied for Job in ITIM Associates (Pvt.). One of my teachers Mr. Adnan Afi put my resume there. He was working there in those days and was a Senior Software Engineer. I was called for an interview. The interview was conducted just 2 OR 3 days before commencement of my final examination. Anyway I cleared the interview and was asked for a second interview with the Technical Director of ITIM. The second interview was conducted in b/w my examinations but, thanks GOD, I cleared it and from June 08, 1998, am working in ITIM Associates as a Software Engineer.
